100% contained, not out

The Finlay Creek fire that broke out Sept. 2, briefly displacing hundreds from their homes, remains 100 per cent contained, but it most likely won't be officially out until the first snowfall.

"Crews are continuing to patrol and mop up the area, it could still be several weeks until it's called out," says fire information officer Max Birkner with the BC Wildfire Service.

"It was a 2,224-hectare fire, so they just want to make sure that they have done all their assessments on danger trees and put out all the hot spots."

The mop-up phase takes quite a long time, Birkner added.
