High prices delay projects

The City of West Kelowna has been forced to delay some projects after prices, and bids were higher than budgeted for.

The city will delay tendering construction of the Glenrosa Reservoir expansion until 2019 because tender prices came in over budget.

Council was told this week the construction market has been busier than recent years, resulting in unfavourable prices and fewer bids.

The expansion is required to supply water to several development projects on Gates Road, Lower Glenrosa and Salmon Road.

The city is hoping the additional 18 months will allow the construction market to change, and allow the city time to build up reserves and collect development portions of the project.

West Kelowna will also retender its 2017 road rehabilitation program next year.

The city received just one bid for the project, and that came in at nearly double the estimated cost of $224,000.

This year's program will be tendered together with the 2018 program to make it more attractive for bidders.
