Rockets Earn Tie On Road

Tyler Spurgeon converted a rebound with 7:53 remaining in regulation time as the Kelowna Rockets earned a 1-1 tie against the Giants in Vancouver.

Justin Keller picked up a loose puck behind the Giants net and fed Brett Palin at the right point. Palin's low wrist shot was stopped by Giants netminder Marek Schwarz, but Spurgeon was left unchecked in front of the net and buried his 18th of the season.

Gilbert Brule on a power play midway through the 2nd scored the lone goal for the Giants.

The Rockets outshot the Giants 30-16, including the only shot in overtime, a blast from outside the blueline by Keller in the final 5 seconds.

With the tie, the Rockets now lead Kootenay by 2 points in the battle for top spot in the BC Division. The Ice do have a game in hand.

The Rockets will host Calgary on Wednesday, before taking on Kamloops in a home and home series Friday and Saturday.
