Rockets Win In Red Deer

Derek Yeomans made 37 saves, including 25 in the second period as the Kelowna Rockets kicked off a 4 game road trip with a 5-1 win in Red Deer. Darren Deschamps led the way offensively with a goal and an assist. Tyler Spurgeon, Brent Howarth, Justin Keller and Chris Ray also scored for Kelowna. The Rockets continue their road trip with games in Swift Current Friday, Medicine Hat Saturday and Lethbridge Sunday.
  • Veteran NHL player Sergei Zholtok died Wednesday of an apparent heart ailment. He was 31. Zholtok was playing hockey for the club team in his home city of Riga, the Latvian capital, when he became ill near the end of a game. European news reports say he suffered from cardiac arrhythmia.
  • In the NBA Wednesday, the Toronto Raptors opened the regular season with a 95-88 win over Houston. Chris Bosh had 20 points to lead the Raptors. Shaq and the Miami Heat dumped New Jersey 100-77.
  • The Toronto Blue Jays may have a tough fight on their hands to re-sign Carlos Delgado. The first baseman's agent, David Sloan, says the Baltimore Orioles are one of the teams at the top of his free agent shopping list. "Baltimore, we are most significantly interested in," Sloane tells the Washington Post. "It's a great place to hit. Hitting in that batting order is very interesting to us."
