The Kelowna Rockets coaches and players’ have announced their selections for the 2004-2005 team captains. After the player’s votes were totalled the front-runner for the Captain’s position was veteran defenceman Brett Palin. The Assistant Captains chosen are, Tyler Mosienko, Shea Weber and Tyler Spurgeon.
Palin, a native of Nanaimo will be heading into his fifth season as a Kelowna Rocket and is no stranger to a leadership position, as he was an Assistant Captain throughout the 2003-2004 season.
"This definitely speaks volume for a player to be selected for captain by his peers. This is truly a great story in my mind. Brett is not the star of our team but he is the guy who leads the ‘lunch bucket brigade’ on our defensive core. No one deserves this more than him,” commented Rockets President and General Manager, Bruce Hamilton.
Mosienko, another fifth season player for the Rockets will once again be wearing the “A” as he also did last season as an Assistant Captain. As for Weber and Spurgeon, both players are heading into their third season with the club and have both earned the respect of their peers to be voted to the Assistant Captain position.
The Rockets open their 2004-2005 Western Hockey League Season at home this coming Saturday, September 25 at 7:00 pm at Prospera Place. Special Opening Ceremony presentations will prelude to the opening face off.
