Blazers get back in win column with big 7-1 victory over Giants

Seven different Kamloops skaters scored goals Wednesday as the Blazers got back into the win column with an exclamation-point victory on home ice over the streaking Vancouver Giants.

The Blazers scored five power-play goals en route to a 7-1 win over the Giants in front of 3,008 fans at Sandman Centre.

Dylan Sydor, Matthew Seminoff, Caedan Bankier, Logan Stankoven, Fraser Minten, Daylan Kuefler and Quinn Schmiemann scored for Kamloops. Connor Hornung scored the lone Vancouver goal.

Stankoven (1G, 2A), Mats Lindgren (3A) and Viktor Persson (3A) each finished the night with three points.

The Blazers were five for 10 on the power play. Vancouver scored once on eight power-play chances.

Dylan Garand gave up one goal on 21 Vancouver shots. Jesper Vikman, who had an excellent night against the Blazers in a 3-1 win in Langley last weekend, allowed five goals on 25 shots before he was chased from the Giants net. Will Gurski stopped 10 of 12 in relief.

The win moves the Blazers to 18-4-0-0 on the season, good for first place in the WHL’s B.C. Division. Kamloops is five wins up on the second-place Giants, who fall to 13-8-1-0.

Vancouver had won six straight heading into Wednesday’s game. Kamloops had lost two in a row.

The Blazers are back in action on Friday, when the Seattle Thunderbirds (14-6-3-0) will pay a visit to Sandman Centre. They will head north to Prince George the following night to play the Cougars (8-14-0-0).
