Kelowna Rockets picked up three of four points in Victoria

Rockets get shootout point

It wasn't exactly what the Kelowna Rockets wanted but, after a tumultuous week, they'll take it.

The Rockets picked up three of a possible four points in Victoria following a 4-3 shootout loss to the Royals Saturday.

The defeat comes on the heels of Friday's 3-2 regulation time victory.

Kelowna led 3-1 at one point late in the second period, by a pair of goals from Brayden Tracey, one late in the second with the teams playing four-on-four, then 19 seconds into the third on a power play, knotted the game at 3-3.

Neither team scored the rest of the way and through overtime, forcing a shootout.

Kaid Oliver and Gary Haden both beat Roman Basran in the shootout to preserve the victory. Connor McDonald scored one for the Rockets, but it wasn't enough.

Kyle Topping opened the scoring just 74 seconds into the game. He assisted on Trevor Wong's fifth, giving Kelowna a 2-1 lead after 20.

Elias Carmichael's first career goal early in the second staked the Rockets to a two-goal lead before Tracey forced the game into overtime.

The Rockets continue their four-game road trip in Prince George with games Tuesday and Wednesday,.

They're back home Friday to host the Everett Silvertips.
