Leif Mattson and James Porter led Spokane past the Rockets

Ex-Rockets haunt old mates

James Porter and Leif Mattson began the season with the Kelowna Rockets.

But, to make room on the roster for other incoming players, both were dealt in separate moves.

Mattson was traded to the Spokane Chiefs while Porter, who never did see the ice in a Rocket uniform this season, was sent to Moose Jaw as part of another deal.

He was eventually sent to Spokane.

Both Porter and Mattson played starring roles in Saturday's 6-0 dissecting of the Rockets.

Porter, in just his fifth start of the season, turned away all 17 shots directed his way to earn his first shutout of the campaign.

Mattson scored twice, including what proved to be the game winner.

The Chiefs, who took care of the Rockets 7-3 at Prospera Place Friday night, picked up Saturday right where they left off.

They fired 45 shots at starter Roman Basran, 35 of those during the decisive first 40 minutes.

The Rockets played one man short Saturday after losing forward Matthew Wedman to injury during the second period Friday.

Wedman joins another growing list of injured Rockets.

Defenceman Devin Steffler and forwards Nolan Foote, Liam Kindree and Michael Farren are also on the injured list.

The Rockets, who have lost three in a row and nine of 11, are off until the weekend when they entertain Portland in back-to-back games Friday and Saturday at Prospera Place.
