Kelowna Rockets open Memorial Cup May 22

Memorial Cup schedule out

The Kelowna Rockets know when they'll be playing at this year's Memorial Cup. They just won't know who for almost four months.

The Memorial Cup schedule was released Wednesday, with the host Rockets opening up the week-long tournament against the champions from the Ontario Hockey League Friday evening, May 22.

They'll face the Quebec league winner Sunday afternoon, May 24, then get two days off before meeting the WHL champions Wednesday, May 27.

The opening game will begin at 7 p.m., with the remainder of the games, including the championship final, Sunday, May 31 – all scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Since round robin play was introduced in 1972, the WHL leads the pack with 19 championships. The Ontario league has won it 17 times, while the QMJHL has been victorious on 12 occasions.

The host team, including the 2004 Rockets, has hoisted the Memorial Cup 10 times.

This will be the sixth time the Rockets have competed for the top prize in junior hockey.

Ticket packages for the Memorial Cup are available through Select Your Tickets.
