Kelowna Rockets forward Kyle Topping undergoes ankle surgery

Rockets lose offensive star

The Kelowna Rockets have added an overage forward after learning they'll be without Kyle Topping for an extended period.

Topping, 20, underwent surgery today to repair a broken ankle suffered in Victoria, Wednesday.

In his place, the Rockets Friday announced they have added 20-year-old forward Kobe Mohr to the roster.

Mohr began the season with the Kamloops Blazers. He had a goal and two assists in six games before being released.

He has spent the past month with Drumheller in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, where he amassed six goals and 11 points in eight games.

Mohr was a first round draft pick of the Edmonton Oil Kings in 2014. He has played 248 career WHL games.

At the time of his injury, Topping was third in team scoring with five goals and 13 points in 14 games.

"Kyle's health is our biggest priority right now," said Rockets president and GM Bruce Hamilton. "We don't have a timeline for his return yet. Our concern is his well being and his health."

Mohr is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Rockets host Prince George.
