The Kamloops Blazers are perfect against the Rockets, winning 2-1

Rockets fall short to Blazers

The Kelowna Rockets gave the Kamloops Blazers all the could handle, but came up a goal short in a 2-1 loss in Kamloops Saturday.

The Rockets started slow out of the gate, managing just five shots in the opening period, and giving up the lone goal.

Zane Franklin put the Blazers up 1-0 nearly 17 minutes in.

Kelowna got better as the game went on, but found themselves in penalty trouble throughout much of the second period. They successfully killed off five minors in the period, including a full two-minutes down two men.

Max Martin beat Roman Basran with what turned out to be the game winner six minutes into the third when his shot from the point deflected in off a Rocket.

Kyle Topping brought the Rockets to within one with less than four minutes to go, and Alex Swetlikoff had a chance to tie it moments later, but Dylan Gerand made a spectacular save to keep the Rockets at bay.

The Blazers have now beaten the Rockets all three times the teams have met this season.

The Rockets head up to Prince George Wednesday, then get a rare weekend off before making the trek to Victoria for Tuesday and Wednesday games the following week.
