Rockets squander 2 points

The Kelowna Rockets continue to give away valuable points.

The Rockets squandered a one-goal third period lead Saturdeay, giving up the winning goal with less than two minutes left in regulation time, in a 4-3 loss Saturday in Kamloops.

That came on the heels of Friday's shootout loss to Prince George, a game in which they also surrendered a third period lead.

Kyle Topping, Nolan Foote on a second period power play, and Leif Mattson all scored during the opening 40 minutes as the Rockets built a 3-2 lead after two periods.

But, as was the case Friday, the Rockets were unable to generate much in the way of offence in the third while the Blazers were able to capitalize on their chances.

Josh Pillar tied it midway through the third on the power play, then, with 1:20 to go in regulation, Orrin Centazzo beat Roman Basran with a deke to the backhand on a penalty shot to snap the 3-3 tie and send the Blazers on to victory.

Kamloops has now won four of the five meetings between the BC Division rivals this season.

The Rockets, 1-1-1-1 in four games since the Christmas break, will host the Western Conference leading Everett Silvertips Wednesday before heading on the road for back-to-back games in Prince George Friday and Saturday.
