Rockets lose valuable point

The Kelowna Rockets came within a minute of securing at least a single point in four straight games.

But, Saturday in Everett, it wasn't meant to be.

Connor Dewar snapped a 1-1 tie with 54 seconds left in regulation, as the Silvertips held on for a 2-1 victory, snapping the Rockets three-game winning streak.

Stationed at the left point, Dewar faked a pass down the boards, made a move past a defender, and snapped a shot past James Porter from the top of the left faceoff circle.

Dewar also opened the scoring with a one-timer from almost the identical spot seven minutes into the second.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, Kyle Topping blasted home his 11th on a Kelowna power play nearly nine minutes into the final period.

It looked as though that might allow the game to go to overtime, but Dewar's game winner poured cold water on that notion for the Rockets.

Porter, seeing his first action in nearly two weeks, was outstanding for the Rockets turning away 40 shots, including 18 during the final 20 minutes.

The Rockets managed just 18 shots on Everett netminder Dustin Wolf.

Kelowna, 11-14-1-0, return home to host the BC Division leading Vancouver Giants Wednesday.
