Rockets make more moves

Kelowna Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton has been busy working the phone these days.

Hamilton continued to tinker with roster Thursday, acquiring 18-year-old centre Michael Farren from the Saskatoon Blades.

The Rockets gave up a third round bantam pick in the 2020 draft.

Thursday's move comes on the heels of a deal Wednesday that saw the 1-8 club pick up overage defenceman Dalton Gally from the Medicine Hat Tigers for a 2020 10th round bantam pick.

While the Gally move is designed to help this season, the Farren trade is a move to help both short, and long-term.

"He's a skilled guy who we are hoping can come in and put up some good offensive numbers," said Rockets assistant GM Lorne Frey.

"He's a younger guy, hopefully a two-to-three year guy, and we think he can help us move ahead offensively. We're trying to get more offence injected into the team and we're hoping that he can help as he's a young, talented kid. We're looking ahead to the future."

Farren has scored 20 goals and 37 assists in 133 games with the Blades. He has five points in eight games this season.

Prior to joining the Blades, he scored 15 goals and 48 points in 40 games in his final season of midget hockey with the Valley West Hawks in the BCMML.

Farren and Gally could both be in the line-up Friday when the Rockets face off with the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, WA.

The same two teams hook up again Saturday at Prospera Place.

The Rockets have lost four-in-a-row heading into the weekend.
