Rockets season over

What started out as a promising season crashed and burned in the playoffs.

The Rockets were swept away by the Tri-City Americans in the opening round of the WHL playoffs following a 5-3 loss in Kennewick, WA Thursday night.

With overtime looming, Morgan Geekie snapped a 3-3 tie with 55 seconds left in regulation time. Geekie completed the hat trick with an insurance tally 17 seconds later.

The Ams never trailed in the game, taking leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2, but, on each occasions, the Rockets battled back to tie it.

They had no answer for Geekie's game winner.

Dillon Dube, held pointless through the first three games of the series, scored twice in what will likely be his final game in a Kelowna uniform.

Kyle Topping also scored for the Rockets. Jordan Topping and Nolan Yaremko scored the other goals for Tri-City.

James Porter went the distance stopping 36 of 41 shots he faced.

Aside from Dube, Thursday's game is likely the last for both forward Kole Lind and Cal Foote who are expected to begin their professional careers next season.

Carsen Twarynski, James Hilsendager and Gordie Ballhorn also played their final game due to age restrictions.
