Rockets season teetering

The Kelowna Rockets are in danger of seeing their season come to a ;premature end.

The BC Division champions find themselves down 3-0 in their best-of-seven first round playoff series, following a 5-3 setback to the Tri-City Americans Wednesday night.

The Americans jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the midway point of the first period and, while the Rockets were able to pull to within a single goal on two occasions, they couldn't find an equalizer.

Jusso Valimaki got the Ams on the board 3:08 into the first period on a Tri-City power play.

Brett Clayton put the home side up two seven minutes later.

Carsen Twarynski got that one back just seconds later.

Michael Rasmussen re-established the two-goal lead with his fifth of the series just 68 seconds into the second, but again, the Rockets got that one back second later when Kole Lind scored his third.

But, that's as close as they would get.

Morgan Geekie scored his fifth of the series 13 minutes into the second and his sixth 13 minutes into the third to put the Ams up three.

A late goal from Conner Bruggen-Cate was too little, too late for the Rockets.

Dillon Dube, who has been a non-factor on the scoresheet, was sent to the showers early for the second time in the series.

He received a major for kneeing and a game misconduct midway through the first period, just after Twarynski had put the Rockets on the scoreboard.

James Porter made his third straight start for the Rockets, turning away 21 of 26 shots fired his way.

The Americans can wrap up the series Thursday night in Tri-City.

A Rockets win would force a fifth game back at Prospera Place Saturday.
