Following fitness testing and registration, 66 candidates will hit the ice on Thursday in search of a roster spot with the 2006-07 Kelowna Rockets.
That list includes veterans Mike Card, Blake Comeau and Justin Keller – all of whom are expected to catch on with pro teams in a few weeks. Card has signed with Buffalo, Comeau with the NY Islanders and Keller with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
As well, 10 players who stood out at the recently completed rookie camp were invited to and accepted invitations to the main camp. These players included 2006 Bantam Draft Choices Tyson Barrie, Collin Bowman, Jesse Paradis, Dylan Tait, Curt Gogol, and David Killip. Kelowna natives Tyler Parfeniuk and Matthew Buat were also included along with Jeremy Wiebe of Vernon and Johnny Rogic of North Vancouver. Only Rogic is old enough to be eligible for WHL action this season.
All training camp action will take place at Prospera Place. There will be 4 scrimmages daily on both Thursday and Friday starting at 9:30 am, 11:00 am, 5:15 pm and 7:15 pm.
The Rockets will play their first of 5 pre season games on Tuesday September 9, 2006 when they host the expansion Chilliwack Bruins.
