Rockets Tame Tigers

Derek Yeomans kicked out 35 shots and Troy Ofukany scored twice to lead the Kelowna Rockets to a 5-2 victory over the league leading Medicine Hat Tigers.

The Rockets spotted the Tigers an early 1-0 lead, then stormed back with two unanswered goals later in the period.

Justin Keller scored his team leading 16th of the season 24 seconds later to tie the game at one before Brent Howarth with his 5th gave the Rockets a 2-1 lead---a lead they would never relinquish.

After a scoreless second, Ofukany scored his 6th of the year early in the third with what proved to be the winner.

The Tigers got that one back midway through the third on a power-play. Troy Bodie restored the two goal lead with his 13th, then Ofukany sealed the deal with an empty netter in the dying seconds.

Roman Psumy scored both Tigers goals---both with the man advantage, as the Tigers went 2-6 on the power-play. The Rockets were 0-5 on the power-play.

The win keeps the Rockets five points in back of the BC Division leading Kootenay Ice. The Ice were 3-2 winners over visiting Prince Albert Wednesday. The Rockets do have three games in hand.

Next up for the Rockets, a home date with the Regina Pats Saturday night at Prospera Place.
