Rockets Snap Losing Skid

At first glance, you'd think the Everett Silvertips had their way with the struggling Kelowna Rockets.

The Silvertips outshot the Rockets 29-11, had five power plays to the Rockets four, and were facing a Kelowna squad playing their third game in as many nights.

Stats can be misleading.

Troy Bodie scored twice, and Justin Keller tallied an empty netter on the lone Rockets shot of the third period, as the Kelowna Rockets snapped a three game losing streak, beating the hometown Silvertips 3-1.

The goals for Bodie were his third and fourth of the young season. His second goal, a power play marker midway through the opening period came less than two minutes after the Tips had tied the game at 1.

There was no scoring the rest of the way, until Keller notched his 2nd of the season to put the game on ice in the final minute.

Derek Yeomans was spectacular in goal for the Rockets, turning aside 28 of the 29 shots he faced, including all 11 in the final period, when the Tips outshot the Rockets 11-1.

The Rockets, 2-3 on the young season, return home to face the winless Prince Albert Raiders Wednesday night at Prospera Place.
