Winter Hawks Upend Rockets

For the second time in two nights, the Kelowna Rockets dug themselves an early hole. Unlike Friday's 3-2 shootout win over Vancouver, the Rockets couldn't finish the comeback against Portland.

The Winter Hawks jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, then scored the final four goals, doubling the hometown Rockets 6-3 Saturday.

Jonathan Dubnick and Michael Funk staked the Hawks to a 2-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game.

The Rockets did come back, getting goals from Troy Bodie, Brent Howarth and Chris Ray to grab a 3-2 lead five minutes into the second.

The Winter Hawks took over from there, getting two goals from Brandon Dubinsky, and singles from Michael Sauer and Jannik Hansen.

Kris Westblom got the start in goal for the Rockets, who were outshot 31-30 on the night.

Kelowna was 2-6 on the power play, Portland, 2-4.

The Rockets are off until Friday, when they host the Kamloops Blazers, before their first mini road trip of the season in Portland next Saturday and Everett Sunday.
