Armstrong Gets Road Money

The City of Armstrong will be able to improve Park Drive with a $546,667 grant from the province’s Community Development Initiative.

According to Shuswap MLA George Abbott, “The roads leading to the arena are currently narrow with no sidewalks. Once these upgrades are complete pedestrians and motorists will have safer access to our exciting new arena site.”

Half a kilometre of Park Drive will be repaved and a sidewalk added. A water main to service the arena will be installed along with storm drains to keep the street from flooding. A new 70 vehicle parking lot will also be added to the arena.

“This announcement now allows Armstrong to proceed with not only much needed water and sewer upgrades, but also improvements that will allow the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians in this increasingly busy area,” said Mayor of the City of Armstrong Jerry Oglow.

Announced by the Ministry of Small Business and Economic Development through supplemental estimates to the 2004/05 budget, the $66 million Community Development Initiative provides up to two-thirds funding for significant community infrastructure projects around B.C. The projects selected for funding come from proposals submitted to government under the Canada/B.C. Infrastructure Program and the Western Economic Partnership Agreement.
