Mounties still investigating precautionary Alexis Park student, staff relocation

UPDATE 3:12 p.m.

Mounties are continuing to investigate a threat which prompted the evacuation of Alexis Park Elementary in Vernon on Tuesday morning.

Const. Chris Terleski with the Vernon RCMP said at about 11:45 a.m. police received a report of an unspecified threat directed at the school. Frontline officers attended the school to ensure staff and student safety.

School District 22 administration ended the school day early and moved students to an Kal Tire Place for pickup which Mounties conducted their investigation.

"Situations involving a threat to the safety of our schools will be treated with the highest of priority," said Terleski.

"We are continuing to investigate the circumstances and legitimacy of the threat and are working closely in partnership with SD22 to ensure the safety of the school."

Terleski says no additional information is available for release at this time.

Students and staff at Alexis Park Elementary school have been relocated due to an "operational matter" confirms School District 22 Supt. Karla Mitchell.

Mitchell confirmed via email that students and staff have been relocated to Kal Tire Place while the operational matter is investigated at the school. The details of the matter is not known at this time, but Mitchell says everyone is safe and the relocation is a precaution.

Students are currently being picked up by parents/guardians or are being bussed home at the usual time of dismissal from Kal Tire Place.

One Castanet reader suggested Mounties are involved, but that has not been confirmed by officials. Castanet has reached out to RCMP for more information.
