Vernon's community radio station closer to broadcasting live on air

Power the Tower a success

Vernon's community radio station is one step closer to hitting the airwaves.

“We at Valley FM are so pleased to announce the success of our "Power the Tower" fundraising campaign,” said Marv Machura, executive director on the 97.9 Valley FM Facebook page.

“We still have many challenges ahead of us, and we are not on air just yet. We are in the process of purchasing and installing our 600-Watt transmitter. It likely will be a few weeks or more until that big day arrives when we start broadcasting on 97.9 FM across Greater Vernon.”

Valley FM organizers are holding a pub night fundraiser at The Winston (Formerly Sir Winston's) on Monday.

The North Okanagan's own Duane Marchand will provide the musical entertainment for the evening that includes door prizes and specials.

There is a suggested donation of $20.

Almost two years after starting the application process, Vernon Community Radio received approval from the Canadian Radio-Television Commission in September 2020.

While not broadcasting on air just yet, the station is broadcasting online.
