Balloon glow draws crowds for first evening of Vernon Winter Carnival

Crowds packed Vernon's Polson Park Friday evening for the Vernon Winter Carnival balloon glow.

Hot air balloons lit up the night sky as the 63rd annual winter carnival got underway.

Across town, Sip n' Savour drew carnival-goers to the Prestige Vernon Lodge, where attendees partook of beers, wines and ciders from B.C. and across Canada as well as food samples.

Events continue across the city until Feb. 12.

Saturday's big event is the carnival parade, which gets underway at noon.
