5 Vernon Ski Club teens qualify for BC Winter Games
Way to represent!
Five Vernon teens will compete in alpine ski racing in the upcoming BC Winter Games.
The Vernon Ski Club athletes, born in 2008 and 2009, qualified for the Games after a weekend race at Apex Mountain Resort.
Only 15 athletes are eligible to represent the Okanagan Zone, and five are from the Vernon Ski Club.
“Our team has been working really hard ahead of the qualifying race, and we are proud to see such a strong group representing the Vernon Ski Club,” says program director Rodger Poole.
Qualifying for the games are Olivia Lahey, Charlie Cardew, Finn Ferguson, Tanner Carr, and Robbie Drew.
Because the Winter Games are being held in Vernon this year, the teens will have a chance to compete on their home mountain in the disciplines of slalom, giant slalom and a nighttime dual slalom race.
“This is very exciting for the club and the five athletes who qualified,” says club president Lauren Carr. “With the Games having been postponed from 2022, they have been anticipating this event for a full year.”
You can cheer on the alpine racers March 23-26, at SilverStar Mountain Resort.
