City of Vernon seeks solution to Okanagan Landing drainage woes

Help for flooding woes

Perennial water woes along Okanagan Landing Road could soon be coming to an end.

A report to city council states staff have been working for several years to construct a drainage outfall to manage drainage in the area of 8099 Okanagan Landing Rd.

Spring runoff annually sees water flow across properties, fill ditches and eventually make its way across the road to Okanagan Lake.

That part of the road also frequently floods during heavy rains.

The drainage problem has brought mud and debris across the street and been a long-running issue for residents of the area, some who see water flowing across their property for months each year.

"In early 2022, the city applied for lakeshore Crown land tenure from the ... provincial government to place riprap to limit impact to the lakeshore from the outfall," the city report says.

Once the Crown land tenure is secured, the city will proceed with construction.

The road was flooded as recently as last week.
