Longtime Vernon Winter Carnival supporter Alvin Timm passes

Vernon's Button Guy passes

The Vernon Winter Carnival Society is paying tribute to the "Button Guy."

Alvin Timm was a longtime supporter of carnival and could be seen wearing a jacket and hat covered in dozens of of the festival's buttons.

Timm was also a recipient of the Jessie Ferguson Memorial Award.

The award is presented to a person or group that has shown years of dedication to carnival through support of events or volunteerism.

“We will miss his enthusiasm and Carnival Spirit. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends,” a post on the carnival Facebook page states.

“How sad. Button guy will be missed at the carnival events, that is for sure. RIP Alvin. Thank you for your community spirit,” wrote former carnival board chair Deb White.

The lifelong resident of the Vernon area, who lived in Coldstream and the BX, died at age 83 at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
