Vernon's Tolko helps out Okanagan Forest Task Force with new computer to complete documentary

Tolko helps task force

An Vernon-based forestry company has come to the aid of the Okanagan Forest Task Force.

The task force has been working on a documentary, What Lies Behind The Trees, in an effort to show the extent of illegal dumping in Okanagan forests.

Earlier this month, Kane Blake posted on the OFTF Facebook page that the project had to be put on hold due to “major computer issues.” However, Vernon's Tolko Industries stepped up to provide the non-profit group with a donation to get the documentary moving forward again.

“Tolko wanted to help us get back on track to get this documentary up and going again with the purchase of a new computer. This computer will last for years to come and will handle everything we do and will need in the future as well,” Blake said in the Facebook post.

The documentary will show what is happening in the mountains surrounding the Valley and the damage illegal dumping is causing to our forests.

"We want everyone to know what is going on in the backcountry. A lot of people, I feel when you send a postcard from the Okanagan, it shows all the beautiful things like the lake, the backcountry, but people don't really see what is going on in the backcountry and just the amount of stuff," Blake previously told Castanet.

"You don't realize it from an office downtown either when you are sitting looking at your views, and you're like 'oh it is so pretty up there,' and then we go up there and there is a lot of garbage."
