Historic ALR designation for Mission Hill filtration to be changed

Land use hiccup

“It’s a bit of a fly in the ointment,” says RDNO area B director Bob Fleming of the proposed Mission Hill water filtration project.

He explains that even though the new Greater Vernon Water facility is to be built “adjacent to the current site,” the land use is designated as being part of the agricultural land reserve.

“It’s a bit of a historic anomaly,” says Fleming.

But, necessary discussions are already underway, and the subsequent paperwork will completed before any ground can be broken on the project.

“Ideally, we will find out this year,” says Fleming, adding he doesn’t expect any issues.

“It was a water treatment site for over 100 years and had a concrete reservoir on it.”

Ground breaking on the Mission Hill filtration plant isn't expected to take place until sometime in 2024.
