Vernon-Monashee MLA Harwinder Sandhu named Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors' Services and Long-Term Care

Sandhu to serve seniors

The Okanagan may have been left out of the ministerial ranks in Wednesday's cabinet shuffle by Premier David Eby, but Vernon-Monashee's Harwinder Sandhu has taken on new responsibility.

Sandhu, who was a registered nurse and patient care co-ordinator at Vernon Jubilee Hospital prior to her election in 2020 was named Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors' Services and Long-Term Care.

The role was previously held by Vancouver-Kensington MLA Mable Elmore.

"Congratulations to Harwinder Sandhu, MLA for Vernon-Monashee, the new Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors' Services and Long-Term Care! OSA looks forward to working with you in the future," the Office of the Seniors Advocate posted to Facebook after the swearing-in ceremony in Victoria.

Boundary-Similkameen MLA Roly Russel was returned to the position of Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development.

Parliamentary secretaries assist cabinet ministers and may be called upon to table documents or answer questions on a minister's behalf.

"I am so excited and honoured to announce that I will be our new Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors' Services and Long-Term Care," Sandhu said on her Facebook page.

"It's an honour to get this very important role. I look forward to work together with all key partners. This area has been my passion during my work in health care, and I am excited to utilize my knowledge and understanding to serve this portfolio."
