Vernon Search and Rescue gets first look inside new home as work continues on project

First look in new VSAR digs

Members of Vernon Search and Rescue had the chance to tour their new home over the weekend.

Work continues on the new VSAR facility on Silver Star Road, and members are "very excited to see the progress and so grateful for the community support that is making this dream a reality," the organization posted on its Facebook page, Sunday.

Ground was broken on the project in May, the pre-fabricated steel frame went up in September, and the facility is expected to open next fall.

Throughout the winter, crews will focus on interior works like plumbing, electrical and drywall.

VSAR has outgrown its current building next to the Regional District of North Okanagan offices, with some equipment having to be stored off site, slowing down response times.

The new $3.5-million facility was approved in 2018. It's taking shape on Silver Star Road, next to Tekmar.
