Staff recommending Vernon council authorize spending 100K on upkeep of murals

Mural maintenance money

Staff are recommending Vernon city council free up money for maintenance and repairs to the city's popular murals.

In a report to be presented to council Monday, staff is recommending the city authorize the expenditure of up to $100,100 for repair and maintenance of the downtown murals to be funded from the mural maintenance reserve.

Administration has been working with the Downtown Vernon Association (DVA) to determine maintenance requirements for the downtown murals.

“Based on the competed assessment, many of the murals require significant repair and rehabilitation that will need to be performed by the original artist or other qualified person to bring them back to original condition,” the report says.

The DVA will be arranging to have the repairs completed in 2023 and 2024, and have provided an estimated cost of approximately $100,100 to complete the work.
