Vernon RCMP release image of suspect vehicle in targeted shooting in BX

Shooting believed targeted

UPDATE: 10:50 a.m.

Police are seeking a suspect vehicle involved in early morning shooting in BX.

Vernon RCMP confirm they are investigating after shots were fired at a home on Cunningham Road about 5:15 a.m. Monday.

Police say several rounds were fired into the residence and vehicles on the property.

Five people were inside the home at the time, and no injuries have been reported, said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski.

Police have released a surveillance image of a vehicle seen fleeing the area at the time of the shooting. It is believed to be an older, red, two door hatchback and was last seen travelling east on Silver Star Road.

"Investigators have reason to believe this to be a targeted incident," says Terleski.

"Regardless of the fact that no one was injured, acts such as this put our entire community at risk, and we are urging anyone with information to come forward to police."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 and quote file number 2022-17221 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.nokscrimestoppers.com.

Police are investigating reports of gunfire in the BX area on the outskirts of Vernon.

Crime scene tape is blocking the end of Cunningham Road, off Silver Star Road, and three RCMP units are on scene.

The street is blocked beyond Spalding Road.

Orange evidence markers can be seen on the road in front of a home at the end of the street, adjacent to an orchard.

Police are focusing on that home, but otherwise the neighbourhood is quiet.

Castanet has reached out to Vernon RCMP for more details and will update as more information becomes available.
