Vernon RCMP arrest, release man in relation to stolen truck

Stolen vehicle incident

Vernon RCMP are continuing to investigate after the operator of a stolen vehicle fled from police.

Const. Chris Terleski said on Sept. 15, at 11:30 a.m., while conducting proactive patrols on 24th Avenue in Vernon, police attempted a traffic stop with a suspicious vehicle.

“The vehicle failed to stop and sped away from the officer at a high rate of speed and in a dangerous manner,” said Terleski in a press release. “In the interest of public safety, police did not pursue the vehicle.”

Multiple officers responded to the area and with assistance from the public, the vehicle was found abandoned on Okanagan Avenue.

One of the occupants of the vehicle was located nearby and arrested.

Further investigation determined the vehicle had been reported stolen.

The man was later released from custody at the scene and police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
