Armstrong embraces Multicultural Day with dance and song

Cultures come together

Cultures from around the globe came together in Armstrong Monday evening.

The Armstrong Chamber of Commerce presented its first Multicultural Day event in Memorial Park.

Executive director Patti Noonan said: “multiculturalism is one of Canada’s great strengths.”

Cultural presentations were made by the Kelowna Bhangra School, Shan-E Punjab Dancers, Blakely Okanagan Irish Dance group, Vernon Chidorikai Japanese Dancers, and a student-led diversity exhibit.

Organizer Carol Hill-Lonergan, who along with a number of those in attendance took part in dance lessons, said they weren't certain the event would take place, but were pleased with the variety of performers and turnout.

Weather was perfect for the event, and food trucks offered a variety of tasty treats for the hungry audience.
