Vernon's SilverStar Mountain Resort Forest Fire Lookout is filled with historical exhibits
History at the Star
Those taking a gondola ride at SilverStar Mountain Resort are being encouraged to check out the new exhibits in the Forest Fire Lookout.
Guests can enjoy a picnic while discovering more about the long history of fire prevention and mining on Silver Star Mountain.
Three new storyboards, Fire on the Mountain, Forest Fire Lookouts and From Mining Claims to Ski Trails will enlighten locals and visitors alike.
Find out about the first forest fire lookout packed to the summit by horses and the phone line strung through the trees in the early 1900s.
Peek in the windows and be greeted by storyboards depicting photos of past summer activities, the survey monument, the lookout in winter, and a variety of memories of times on The Star.
Self-guided walking tours of various historical exhibits on the mountain will be open daily.
Maps to guide a walking tour can be picked up in the hotels and shops in the Village. View displays and videos at Pinnacles Suites - the original day lodge - the Vance Creek Lower Lobby and Stairway Gallery, the Chilcoot Lodge Lobby and Forest Fire Lookout.
