Inspirational speaker Mike Shaw keynote at Compassionate Friends fundraiser

Inspiration for the grieving

Mike Shaw will be keynote speaker at the Compassionate Friends fundraiser at Wings Vernon.

The inspirational speaker, athlete, coach and author will tell his amazing story at the June 21 event.

Shaw knew life would never be the same after a devastating crash left the professional skier a quadriplegic, but he wasn’t about to give up. He set his sights on getting back to the top of the mountain.

Since that fateful day in 2013, Shaw dragged himself out of the depths of despair and has made a remarkable recovery. Now, he's using his experience to help others.

Shaw is a resilience expert, who specializes in leadership training, mindset mastery wellness, and team building.

"We are so excited to have Mike come speak at this important fundraiser. Mike is so nice, and I was impressed with him when we met six years ago. His positive thinking has helped me in many ways. He is just amazing, and we expect a sold-out crowd,” says Compassionate Friends committee member Carol Owen.

There will also be a special presentation by TEDx speaker Reen Rose.

“I am excited to be able to present at this gala evening. I think of myself as an Edutainer. I deliver presentations that are focused, fun, and very effective. My content is supported by evidence-based research, and delivered with humour and storytelling,” said Rose.

All proceeds from the event will help fund The Compassionate Friends’ annual retreat at Whatshan Lake. The retreat is about living with the loss of a loved one.

“The Dahl Group is signing up as a corporate sponsor and encourages others to do the same,” says Wings proprietor Katie Dahl.

Whether your family has had a child die at any age, from any cause, or you are trying to help those who have gone through this life-altering experience, The Compassionate Friends exists to provide friendship, understanding, and hope to those going through the natural grieving process.

Tickets are available at Wings, by emailing [email protected] or calling 250-308-8489.
