Vernon's Fara Coombs in the running to become fitness magazine covergirl

An unsuspecting covergirl

Fara Coombs didn't set out to become a fitness model.

But, the Vernon woman is now competing to be featured on the cover of Muscle & Fitness HERS magazine – with a chance to win $20,000.

Voting begins today.

The chance to become a cover model came through a link on Facebook.

Her friends encouraged her to send in a photo, so she did.

“I just sent in a vacation one. I was like, I probably won't get picked because it's muscle,” said Coombs. “I don't go to the gym and work out, I just do rollerblading and outside stuff. My own kind of exercise.”

On her profile page, Coombs says she is an “an all-natural, born and raised Okanagan girl who has a positive attitude with positive vibes, always.”

And while she may not be a gym rat, Coombs is plenty active.

“Fitness keeps me balanced, keeps me positive and keeps me moving,” she said when asked how keeping active positively impacts her life.

People can vote for Coombs daily through May 13. The top 15 will advance to the next round.

Coombs says if she were to win the $20,000, she would “help a few people close to me that are having some health issues of their own.”
