Vernon's Towne Theatre sets reopening date in wake of basement fire

Towne reopening soon

Vernon's Towne Theatre is getting ready to reopen after a basement fire closed its doors.

The historic downtown theatre has been closed since Feb. 10, after the fire in a shared basement caused smoke damage and glass was broken for firefighters to gain entry.

A reopening date has been set for April 11, for Monday Night at the Arts.

In a Facebook post Saturday, the local non-profit theatre society stated: "For April and early May, we will just be open on Mondays and for private rentals. We will use that time to train up some new staff and get all our supplies ordered in."

Management still hasn't heard back from their insurance company and say they appreciate the re-sharing their GoFundMe campaign has received.

"Start-up costs and replacing all the damaged concession items will be a big outlay," they say.

The society faces unexpected losses in the tens of thousands of dollars as a result of the fire, including deductibles, increased premiums, lost business and more.
