Construction is expected to begin early next month on Coldstream's new community hall and child-care facility.
The building will go up on the former site of the Coldstream Women’s Institute Hall.
Sawchuk Developments of Kelowna has been awarded the contract on the more than $5-million project.
The hall will provide space for events of up to 200 people, while the child-care facility will have 84 spaces and be operated by Maven Lane.
Federal and provincial grant funding totalled $5,092,365, while Coldstream is providing the land.
Just under $2.1 million in infrastructure funding will pay for the community hall portion of the project, while the Childcare BC New Spaces Fund is providing $3 million for the daycare.
“This new community hall and child-care facility will meet Coldstream’s needs and be a community hub for people and families in the area for many years to come,” said Harwinder Sandhu, Vernon-Monashee MLA.
“Together with the federal government, we are providing the support and funding smaller communities and rural areas need to address their unique infrastructure challenges.”
Coldstream Mayor Jim Garlick added: “The new community hall and child-care facility is a major step in the further development of our Town Centre area.
“The new hall will serve our community by providing a gathering space for decades to come, and the child-care spaces ... will provide much-needed support to families in our community.”
The project was designed by Sahuri & Associates of Kelowna.
