3 staff at Armstrong Elementary test positive for COVID-19, school closed

3 school staff test positive

A North Okanagan school has confirmed three staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.

Armstrong Elementary School announced on its website that a certified education assistant, a teacher and staff member all tested positive.

The staff members are isolating at home, the school says.

“The board of education of School District No. 83 is committed to ensuring all of our students, staff and schools are safe. Please use all the layers of protection available to you,” the school wrote.

The school is currently under a “functional closure” due to a staff shortage.

The school will be closed until Friday, School District 83 Supt. Donna Kriger said in a letter to parents and staff.

The closure was initially expected to be for Jan. 14 and 17, however, Kriger says the extension was due to staffing issues beyond the district's control.
