Armstrong Elementary School extends closure to Friday

School closure extended

Armstrong Elementary School has extended its functional school closure for the remainder of the week.

Last week, School District 83 Supt. Donna Kriger declared a functional closure that was supposed to last just two days, due to staffing issues.

A letter from Kriger posted on the school website Monday outlines the extension of the closure.

“We were hopeful that a new week would result in new opportunities to have adequate staff within the school to support the instruction and safety of students,” wrote Kriger.

“I regret to inform you that the functional school closure declared last week will continue for the remainder of the week.”

Kriger says the closure is a result of a staffing shortage caused by a “variety of reasons out of our control.”

Remote learning will continue to be offered for students for the week of Jan. 17 to 21.

“I am fully aware of the many implications this decision has on families within the school community,” wrote Kriger.

“I also understand this is creating some inconvenience and even hardship for some of you.”

In the letter, Kriger assures parents and staff that the district is continuing discussions regarding any solutions to address the situation.

An update will be provided Friday regarding the situation at Armstrong Elementary School.
