Life-threatening injuries
Vernon RCMP say a 50-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a bloody accident in the north end of the city Thursday afternoon.
Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski says police responded to the serious collision about 2:30 p.m.
Paramedics and firefighters also rushed to the scene in the parking lot of a business on the 2500 block of 53rd Avenue, where a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
"The victim, a 50-year-old woman, was transported from the scene for treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries," says Terleski. "The driver of the vehicle remained at scene and is co-operating with police, who are continuing to investigate the collision."
Police asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Const. Richard Lausman at 250-545-7171.
BC Emergency health Services said Thursday an air ambulance that was in the area also responded, but was not required.
"One patient was transported to hospital via ground ambulance in serious condition," BCEHS said.
The dramatic incident played out as the helicopter landed in the north end of the Village Green Shopping Centre in front of holiday shoppers.
