New Tim Hortons will have drive-thru at 32nd Street location in Vernon

New Tims on the way

Vernon coffee lovers will have another Tims to get their fix at next year.

Signs have gone up at the corner of 32nd Street and 39th Avenue announcing a new Tim Hortons with drive-thu for the site, which was previously occupied by a dishevelled heritage home that burned down in 2020.

Vernon Tims franchisee Dan Currie things are "very early" in the process, but rezoning and a development permit are being sought to build the new restaurant.

It will replace the old Tims across from the Vernon Lodge, which has been closed for almost two years and is currently just being used for storage.

"We're on our way to getting things going in the new year," says Currie.

"We'll probably start on the site in March and opening will probably be closer to summer."

Currie says the new building will sit on the empty lot, and the old store will be demolished, likely in the spring.

"We'll be expanding right to the corner, and the old building will be the parking lot," he added.

The new Tims will be 3,000 square feet in size, an increase from the old store's 2,000 square feet.

Currie says, once open, the outlet will employ 30 to 50 people.

Currie owns all the Tims outlets in Vernon, and the opening of the new location will return those numbers to six, giving coffee lovers plenty of options for getting their caffeine jolt.
