Historic O'Keefe Ranch teams up with Vernon's Powerhouse Theatre to present A Christmas Carol

Scrooge coming to O'Keefe

Vernon's Powerhouse Theatre is teaming up with Historic O'Keefe Ranch to provide a unique theatrical experience.

Bob Oldfield, Powerhouse board president, said the two groups are collaborating on a version of A Christmas Carol.

The Dickens' classic will have audience members moving around the ranch as different scenes are acted out at different areas of of the facility.

Volunteers from Powerhouse portrayed era characters at the ranch during the summer, but this is the first time Powerhouse and O'Keefe Ranch have collaborated on a play.

“We are using a lot of the buildings at the ranch,” said Oldfield. “It's a walking theatre. It's already in rehearsal and will be happening over two weeks in December.”

Diane Llewelyn-Jones, a Powerhouse board member as well as the guest experience co-ordinator at the ranch, penned the adaptation of the show.

“She is directing the show as well so the vision was entirely hers to do it at the ranch which fits perfectly,” said Oldfield.

Llewelyn-Jones is a theatre veteran wearing the hats of a playwright, director, choreographer and vocalist. She owned her own company and has directed more than 40 productions as well as teaching musical theatre privately, hosting theatre camps and master classes throughout Alberta.

Llewelyn-Jones has a masters degree in theatre from Toronto’s York University.

Oldfield said COVID restrictions will limit the number of people who can attend each show so tickets will at a premium.

The show will be presented Dec. 7-11 and Dec. 14-18.
