Oktoblerfest will be back

Vernon's first Oktoblerfest was a hit, and organizers say the event will be back next year.

"What a great weekend – this could be a new major event for Vernon," Sherman Dahl of Wings restaurant said after the Bavarian-themed event's conclusion.

Capacity crowds were reported for the mash-up of Octoberfest and the last name of Okanagan Spring brewmaster Stefan Tobler.

"Traditions aren't things frozen in time. They're meant to grow and change along with the community that celebrates them ... tapping the keg on the first year of celebrating German heritage, food, dance, culture, and 'gemütlichkeit' in Vernon," said Dahl.

The dates for next year have already been set for Oct. 6-9.

More events and live bands are already being considered.

"You can be sure it will be much bigger next year ... Oktoblerfest is all about fun and smiles all weekend long. Not much is better than that," said Katie Dahl.

"It was truly a great weekend. The food portion of the event was very well executed by the Wings team. Life is Wundebar! with great beer, great food and great friends," said Tobler.
