Structural repairs to baxter Bridge expected to end in mid-October

Baxter work ending soon

Structural repair work to the Baxter Bridge near Enderby is expected to wrap up in mid-October.

Chad Marsh, area bridge manager with the Ministry of Transportation says: "We are getting near enough to the end of the project that we believe that the repairs will be complete sometime during the week of Oct. 12."

The bridge is located on Trinity Valley Road and was closed down for an extended period last year due to serious structural issues.

Marsh previously said work will include repairs to piles under the bridge and replacement of structural components.

The bridge, which is primarily made of timber, was built in 1950 and is nearing the end of its service lifespan, the Ministry of Transportation says.

A modern, two-lane steel and concrete replacement is planned.

Temporary closures will continue as the work goes on, with daylong closures from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25 and 26.

There will be no closures over the Thanksgiving weekend.
