Friends of Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park collect buckets of trash from trails

Kal Park littered with trash

The Friends of Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park are asking residents to be more “park sensitive” after finding loads of trash littered around the park.

Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park has a reputation of being one of B.C.’s cleanest and most pristine parks – "but that might be at risk," says Doug Geiger.

Volunteers from the society recently held a 'hike and littler pull' on some of the park's popular trails and found loads of trash scattered through the areas.

Geiger says the volunteers collected over seven five-gallon pails full of cans, bottles, candy wrappers, cups, diapers, underwear, dog poop bags and sandals.

“Nature needs our respect and care,” said Geiger.

One of the Friends society's slogans is: "leave only footprints, take only photographs."
