First ever TV Fest this weekend at Vernon's Towne Theatre

TV coming to silver screen

The small screen is coming to the silver screen.

The first ever TV Fest, a film festival dedicated to the best short-form and TV-style content from emerging creators near and far, is happening at the newly renovated Towne Theatre this weekend.

“As a festival director, TV lover and longtime Vernon resident, I’m super proud and excited to help bring this sort of special event to our amazing community and hope you’ll enjoy what we’ve put together as much as we do,” says Robyn Thurston.

The weekend will also feature numerous short films.

There will be eight different collections of independent television, including:

  • Three progressively dark sets of sci-fi, fantasy and horror programming on Friday, beginning at 3:45 p.m.
  • Free or by donation kids cartoons on Saturday and Sunday morning, compliments of Okanagan Screen Arts Society. Showings each day at 9, 10:15 and 11:30 a.m.
  • Two high-quality slates of documentaries on Saturday and Sunday at 12:45 and 3:15 p.m.
  • Two unique prime-time style programs (comedy/drama) on Saturday evening at 5:45 and 8:15 p.m.

Among those being shown is Timberwood, featuring Vernon's own Ian Fisher.

Fisher is an actor and writer, also known for Between (2015), Covert Affairs (2010), and Bear Trap (2019).

Timberwood was co-written by Fisher and AJ Vaage. It won an award for best TV pilot and was runner-up for best comedy.
