Laird of Fintry Whisky one of the Okanagan's most sought after limited-edition libations

Laird lottery a hot ticket

Winners of the lottery to purchase one of the Okanagan's most sought after limited-edition libations will find out if they're lucky on Sept. 27.

The Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery single-malt Laird of Fintry Whisky is so in demand an annual lottery is held just to purchase a bottle.

Each year, thousands of people join the lottery, and CEO Tyler Dyck anticipates this year's lottery will surpass last year's 20,000 entries.

The Laird of Fintry is a three-time World Spirits Awards gold medal winner.

"We are entering the final week that entrants have to sign up," says Dyck.

"With the frenzied rate that people are signing up for this year’s lottery, we are anticipating to surpass last year’s mark of over 20,000 entrants, effectively giving winners a 1-in-4 or a 1-in-5 chance to secure a bottle of Canada’s most internationally awarded single-malt craft whisky."

This year, winners will not only be able to purchase a bottle of the original double-wood fortified-foch-finished whisky, but will also be given the opportunity to get their hands on an even more limited-edition bottle of the Black Label cask-strength version, which isn't officially being released until the end of October.

Dyck says the Laird lottery is "not just about creating a fun annual event that allows for the fair sending out of our whisky into the community," but also has a long-standing charity component.

"Every year, we donate dozens of bottles to amazing charity partners, where they auction off the bottles, often generating hundreds or even thousands of dollars for those great causes," he says.

Past releases have fetched up to $4,500 a bottle.

There's still time to enter the lottery by visiting the Okanagan Spirits website or dropping in to the distillery's Vernon or Kelowna locations.
